Myths About Dark Colors

Myths About Dark Colors

Often, dark colors are viewed as being a poor choice for interior design. Many opt for light colors; however, if done correctly, dark colors can make a room feel sophisticated and stylish. Here are a few reasons why you should head on over to the dark side-

Myth: Dark colors will make the room feel small.

Crowding a room with bulky furniture or over accessorizing will in fact make the space feel small. Designing with minimal accessories will immediately cause the room to feel much bigger, even with a dark wall.

Myth: Dark colors are bland.

Although light colors are a booming trend as of now, dark colors can appear to be more sophisticated and richer. For example, berry blue has much more depth and feel than sky blue, and can immediately become a statement color once applied to a wall. Light colors are easily looked over.

Myth: Dark colors will make the room feel dreary.a

Many associate the words sad and dreary with dark colors; however, dark colors can be associated with sophistication and elegance as well. For example, emerald green can be classy, black can be exotic, and red can be striking.

What Is Elastomeric Paint?

What Is Elastomeric Paint?

Elastomeric paint is used on masonry concrete to prevent water penetration into building interiors. The name Elastomeric comes from the word “elastic” because of its flexibility. Elastomeric paint is capable of covering hairline and pin sized holes that allow water to seep into. It does this by expanding and contracting into these tiny spaces.

This extremely durable and dirt resistant coating is strong enough to withstand wind-driven rain for up to 98 mph. Elastomeric paint can prevent mildew, dust, dirt, water leakage, and moisture that might seep into your building’s walls or roof.

Elastomeric paint coating can be applied to exterior surfaces such as metal, brick, stucco, concrete, masonry; as well as adjacent wood and metal surfaces.

Go Bold with a Colorful Door

Go Bold with a Colorful Door

One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to spice up your home’s exterior is with a bold colored door. TV home improvement shows, such as Flip or Flop, have set examples that even the most neutral colored homes can become alive again with just a touch of paint.

Just about any color you can think of will do. Try fun colors such as light turquoise, peachy orange, or scarlet red for the full flare effect. For a more sophisticated look, use colors such as dark green, robins egg blue, dark navy blue, and deep red.

Having a colorful door can allow great options for decorating with accents such as garden flowers, window shutters, wreaths, curtains, and even patio furniture. The best part about painting your door is that it’s easy to replace in case you may want a different color. Go on, give it a try!

How Humidity and Temperature Affect Paint

How Humidity and Temperature Affect Paint

Temperature:

Texas normally stays pretty hot and humid; however, sometimes Texas can get bitterly cold. In those cases where the temperature reaches below 45°F, paint has a very hard time drying due to moisture in the paint crystallizing. On the opposite spectrum, heat can cause the surface of the paint to skin over before the lower layers have time to dry. This results in bumps, blisters, and other imperfections. For best results, it’s best that the temperature be above 45°F for at least 48 hours.

Humidity:

When humidity levels are high, a brown or white discoloration on the surface of the paint may occur. This is called surfactant leaching. This basically means that the humidity in the air is introducing more moisture or water into the incompletely dried paint film. The more moisture in the air, the longer it takes for the moisture in latex or acrylic paint to evaporate. To avoid this, make sure to check humidity levels before painting.

A Change of Color for 2017

A Change of Color for 2017

Reflecting back, 2016 was the year of light and airy with a touch of nature. We saw pale whites and greys with light browns, pale greens, light blues, and dark turquoise. It was all about the natural and rustic look. But will the white and grey palette trend carry over?

You can never go wrong pairing white or grey with anything. Depending on the feel you’re going for, light colors always create an inviting atmosphere. However, it has been predicted that colors are fighting their way back into the scene, looking more vibrant than ever.

Saturated colors such as red, orange, indigo, and green pair really well with the current palette of grey and white. Since these colors are so loud, more neutral colors (such as grey and white) balance out the mood, still creating a relaxing but eye catching atmosphere.

While the natural, rustic palette is still in, the forecast deems bright splashes of color in the near future. Consider trying this trend with a bright red couch or bar stools, or try painting navy accents in your home next to a light grey color. To maintain a classic yet natural look, use only one or two of these saturated colors in your home with an abundance of white or light grey.
